BARCELONETA

Barceloneta is the seaside district of the city. Its origins trace back to 1447 when King Juan II ordered the construction of an embankment in order to join solid ground to the mythical Island of Mayans. The visitor can now enjoy its clean beaches, wide promenades and narrow streets... that tempt oneself to wander off following the smell of the sea breeze and the aromas of paella and seafood that drift out of its restaurants.
